Okay, so it won’t replace real Irish Coffee, but then again, I’m not into alcohol at 6:00 in the morning. That’s something I left behind when I was in my 20’s.
But I do like flavored coffees, so when I found this offering on The English Tea Store, I knew I had to give it a try. I’m enjoying a cup of it right now as I write this.
When I want a single cup of coffee I bypass the Mr. Coffee and instead use my pour-over setup. Why pour-over? You can read about all the advantages of this method here on the Coffee Gear Gurus web site. It explains it far better than I can. Besides, I’m feeling especially lazy this morning, so I have no problem letting experts do the heavy lifting for me. That way, I can concentrate on the coffee itself.
Whenever I try a new blend of coffee or tea, I always make the first batch according to the directions that come with it. So with Twining’s Irish Breakfast Blend, I steep it for the recommended 4 minutes, Darjeeling for 3, and this coffee, two level tablespoons per cup.
After the first cup, I’ll adjust the strength of each blend to my own taste. These days, it’s 5 minutes and two teabags for the Irish Breakfast Blend, two bags for the Darjeeling, and I’m going to use two rounded tablespoons for this coffee blend.
Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch…
Two rounded tablespoons yield the perfect blend for Bewley’s Irish Crème Coffee.
